About the Organisation
The Southern African Development Community Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) is established as the Centre of Excellence for groundwater management in the SADC region hosted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Pretoria, South Africa on behalf of and under the strategic guidance of the SADC Secretariat, Directorate of Infrastructure and Services – Water Division, in Gaborone, Botswana. The mandate of the SADC-GMI is to promote sustainable groundwater management and provide solutions to groundwater challenges through creating an enabling policy, legal and regulatory environment, capacity development, advancing research, supporting groundwater infrastructure development, and enabling dialogue and accessibility of groundwater information in the SADC region.
About the Job
The Finance Officer will be the focal person for SADC-GMI on all finance duties with and in support of the other SADC-GMI team members. S/he will report directly to the Executive Director of SADC-GMI.
Key Responsibilities
Budget preparation, tracking and reporting for all financiers
Contact & relationships management with, banks, service providers, debtors, creditors, etc
Ensure compliance with Tax and VAT requirements in South Africa
Monthly preparation and reporting on various reconciliations viz creditors, debtors, bank accounts, debit/credit cards, cash, etc
Ensure compliance with donor-funded project policies and procedures
Performing accounting, banking, budgeting and financial management tasks within a non-profit environment
Support compliance with RSA labour and tax provisions
Sourcing and effective utilisation of Payroll software system
Support in preparation of Annual Financial Statements, project audits, risk management and internal control.
Support in preparation, reporting and functionality of the Audit and Risk Management function
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director of SADC-GMI
Requirements
A minimum of a degree qualification from a recognized institution in accounting, finance, economics, or other field relevant to the job.
A postgraduate diploma in accounting and finance will be an added advantage.
A minimum of 6yrs post-graduation working experience in the financial administration and management field
Membership with a recognized professional body will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated experience working on similar tasks and systems foreseen under this post is a requirement.
Demonstrated proficiency in general computer software applications is mandatory, particularly Internet and MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Previous working experience as a member of a multi-national and multi-disciplinary team.
